50 Shades of Sapphire

Birthstone of September and a Gem of impeccable quality, the sapphire is one of the three gem-varieties of Corundum, the other two being ruby – defined as Corundum in a shade of red—and Padparadscha—a pinkish orange variety. Although blue is their most well-known color, sapphires may also be colorless, and are found in many colors including shades of gray and black.
Better still, Sapphires are also very hard (second only on the moh scale to a Diamond), which means that they are a very affordable - yet luxurious - option for any Jewellery design.

In earlier times, some people believed that the firmament was an enormous blue sapphire in which the Earth was embedded. Could there be a more apt image to describe the beauty of an immaculate sapphire? And yet this gem comes not in one but in all the blue shades of that firmament, from the deep blue of the evening sky to the shining mid-blue of a lovely summer's day which casts its spell over us.
However, this magnificent gemstone also comes in many other colours: not only in the transparent greyish-blue of a distant horizon but also in the gloriously colourful play of light in a sunset – in yellow, pink, orange and purple. Sapphires really are gems of the sky, although they are found in the hard ground of our 'blue planet'.
The most common shades of Sapphire, apart from Blue, are:
- Yellow Sapphire (sometimes also called "Golden Sapphire" if intensely colored)
- Pink Sapphire
- White Sapphire (describes Sapphire that is colorless)
- Green Sapphire
- Purple Sapphire
- Orange Sapphire
- Black Sapphire

Star Sapphires

A star sapphire is a type of sapphire that exhibits a star-like phenomenon known as asterism; red stones are known as "star rubies". Star sapphires contain intersecting needle-like inclusions following the underlying crystal structure that cause the appearance of a six-rayed "star"-shaped pattern when viewed with a single overhead light source. Very rare - and undeniably beautiful! Want to see one? Come down to 638 Kiewa St Albury!

The Making of a Masterpiece...

At Tremonti we're all about making dreams come true, and last week Master Goldsmith Karin Tremonti was very busy making one of her own dreams come true...

Normally the final step in any Tremonti dream is a stunning jewellery masterpiece - but this time this amazing 21 carat Yellow Diamond Ring was just the beginning...
Our film began its life in our very own 638 Kiewa St Studio-Gallery, where the talented Darren from Grigg Media set up all the equipment needed to make the magic happen. Our wonderful models Kristin and Jonathon were just another jewel in the final masterpiece...

Of course, our torso needed that special Tremonti polish...
And as you can see, Karin Tremonti is a very hands-on designer!
Darren had to test the lighting to make sure we could catch every ripple...
And here we began our "dress rehearsal"
All of this film was from Karin Tremonti's creative mind - always with a flair for the unusual!
Practice made perfect, and it's time to shoot!

Karin works closely with Darren to make sure we get the true "Tremonti touch"...
Now it's just time for Darren to take all of the material he shot in the morning and finish this "diamond in the rough". A great morning's work!
And our Cinema liason Kate even picked up a pair of Silver and Freshwater Pearl earrings to match her outfit! Happy endings all around!
Karin Tremonti would like to thank Kristin, Jonthon, Darren and Kate for all of their hard work and support in making her dream come true! You can catch our latest ad in the Gold Class screenings at the Regent Cinemas, Albury NSW from September - Or click here to see a preview screening for yourself!

Want more? Stick around for the sequel...

A remodeller's delight...

This amazing gold wave ring with sparkling white diamonds began life as a plain wedding and engagement band set. But our friend Gayle took the brave - and fashion-forward - step of updating her symbol of love to something a little more edgy...

I think we can all agree that her decision paid off!
Think - do you have any jewellery you never wear because your style has changed? Reinvention is only a phonecall away- 60416310..

Congratulations Gayle!
