Throughout history Opals have been widely regarded as a stone of good fortune.
Already favoured throughout the British Empire as a regal gemstone of vibrant quality, in Roman times the gem was carried as a good luck charm or talisman, as it was believed that an Opal brought its owner good fortune.
Coupled with this belief for centuries, however, was the rumour that Opals brought bad luck - a concept developed for commercial reasons rather than any truth. It's bad luck if you don't have one!
Today, in a number of cultures, Opal is still carried or worn as a good luck charm.
Lucky Opal, the rainbow gem or "The Stone of Hope", is the birthstone of October. But you can get its fortunate properties no matter what month it is!
