Opal Facts #5 - Opal Fossils

By strange coincidence, and only by rare occasion, fossils found from the early Cretaceous period (115-100 million years ago) have been sometimes found where the bone is replaced by Opal! Not only beautiful, these rare archeological beauties are also very important to scientists, as the Opal's brilliant quality means that as the bone has been replaced by Opal sediment, the fossil is perfectly preserved.
Who said you can't be pretty and practical?
